Press Release International Remembrance Day 2021
The Holocaust Awareness Museum and Education Center, World ORT, and the WE ARE HERE! Foundation have partnered this year to provide an international experience of Holocaust education and remembrance to students around the world. This is an international project that commemorates the Holocaust and also provides opportunities for global Holocaust education, engaging the next generation of learners.
The Holocaust Awareness Museum and Education Center will provide Witness to History Survivor Testimony programs to World ORT, the global education network driven by Jewish values, where students will have the opportunity to engage directly with a Holocaust survivor and hear their stories. These students will also, through the WE ARE HERE! Foundation, learn the importance and legacy of the Partisans’ Song, and join together globally through sharing that music in their own languages. The Partisans’ Song, the song of hope, is the legacy of the partisans and the survivors.
Join us on 27 January 2021 for a special broadcast program which will showcase the testimony shared with the students, allow them to describe and share their experiences with each other, and connect globally through the harmony of learning experiences and the singing of the Partisans’ Song.
Other information about partner organizations:
World ORT: ORT is a global education network driven by Jewish values. Since 1880, ORT has transformed lives through training and education. It now reaches 300,000 people a year in more than 30 countries. ORT provides a combination of high-level science and technology education with strengthened Jewish identity, bridging the gap between ability and opportunity.
WAH!: The objective of our WE ARE HERE! project is to promote Human Rights and Social Justice through the principle of choosing to be an Upstander. Our focus is on language, literature, music, film, the arts, and other cultural forms. We feature the Partisans’ song, long revered by Holocaust survivors, including to this day. The very words embrace the understanding of what it takes to be an Upstander, and not a bystander. The message is relevant today both in the school yard, the sports field, and on the internet, to counter discrimination and cyber bullying.
HAMEC: Our mission is to educate students and adults, personalizing the Holocaust so that they learn the consequences of racism, ethnic cleansing, and intolerance. The Holocaust was a watershed event, not only in the 20th century, but in the entire history of humanity. Our Educational Programs serve the five-county area of Greater Philadelphia and beyond. We offer a variety of educational programs, including eyewitness testimonies, personal interactions with eyewitnesses, two live theater performances, and docent-led museum tours.
